Volunteer Responsibilities:

5-10 hours per week

Assist ABLE participants with basic math, reading, writing, and science

Weekly meetings at the HRDC to discuss lesson plans and student progress
-
Collaboration with the current VISTA on the HiSET program building project
-
Provide orientation to the program for all new clients
-
Assist individuals in making realistic assessments of their ability and help establish students’ educational and occupational goals
-
Ensure that the classroom space, materials, supplies, and equipment are ordered, maintained, and updated as necessary
-
Some distribution of promotional materials and recruitment for the ABLE classroom
-
Optional, but encouraged, participation in ABLE classroom workshops
Minimum Qualifications:
-
High school diploma or equivalent
-
Effective oral and written communication skills
-
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, word processing, and email communication skills
-
Reliable transportation to the HRDC/study site
-
Must possess a valid driver’s license and vehicle liability insurance
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Currently enrolled at MSU-Northern
-
Pursuing a career education or community leadership
-
Previous tutoring experience
-
Previous volunteer experience or campus involvement
